About the Greek God Apollo

Apollo was the son of Zeus. He is the God of music, playing a golden lyre. He was the Archer, far shooting with a silver bow. He was the God of healing who taught man medicine. He was the God of light. And he was the God of truth, who cannot speak a lie. One of Apollo’s more important daily tasks is to harness his chariot with four horses and drive the Sun across the sky. He is famous for his oracle at Delphi. People traveled to it from all over the Greek world to divine the future. His tree was the laurel.

Apollo is de zoon van Zeus en Leto en de tweelingbroer van Artemis. Apollo is de God van het licht, de muziek, de dichtkunst en de spiritualiteit, ook van de landbouw en de vee kudden. Apollo was een knappe God, lang en goed gebouwd en hij had vele liefdesavonturen met nimfen en sterfelijke vrouwen. Apollo was ook een vaardige oorlogsgod die in staat was zijn pijlen over zeer grote afstand af te schieten. Apollo symboliseerde de triomf van het daglicht over de duisternis en de overwinning van alle goede krachten, van de positieve invloed van het licht en de zon.
